The United Farm Workers is seeking talented and motivated organizers to be part of the Farm Worker Movement in New York State and begin exciting new campaigns to improve farm worker lives (Current Locations: - Within 30 miles of Valatie, Albany or Kingston, NY) Summary: The NY State Worker Outreach Organizer is responsible for organizing farm workers to have the UFW represent them through collective bargaining agreements. Under the direction of the Organizing Coordinator or IO-EO Fund Manager, plans, advocates and facilitates UFW membership growth by empowering and developing farm workers. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct personal visits, house and general meetings in NY state and sending communities such as Mexico, Jamaica, etc. Responsible for the recruitment and development of worker leaders to form a union at their company. Develop relationships with local community, labor, political and religious leaders Implement programs designed to attract farm worker participation Ensure worker rights are enforced via worker actions and governmental agencies Plan with the worker boards/negotiating committees to conduct negotiations Maintain and document worker information in database (VAN) Conducts card check elections QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION: Prior organizing experience is preferred but not required. Ability to work outside of an office environment, travel, work long and irregular hours, including weekends, early mornings and evenings as needed. Strong computer & technology skills preferred (Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Docs, PowerPoint, Internet, Social Media). Ability to work well with diverse groups, under challenging deadlines. Strong commitment to the mission of the Farm Worker Movement. Fluent in Spanish and English, both oral and written. A valid driver's license, current passport and a reliable car is required. COMPENSATION: Salary of $62,500 - $64,000 a year. Benefits package that includes family medical, dental, vision, pension, 401k, 12 paid holidays, 48 hours of sick pay & paid vacations.
