Job Title: Surgical Technician-NCA Profession: Tech Specialty: Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Two years of Surgical Tech experience License: BLS Certifications: CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) Must-Have: Spine and vascular experience Description: The Surgical Technician-NCA assists other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care during the intra-operative period. The major focus for this position is on preparation and handling of instrumentation and surgical equipment and assisting the surgeon during the surgical procedure. This individual administers care and use of equipment applications based on the age and needs of the patient population served (neonate through geriatric). The Surgical Technician must be knowledgeable of specific procedures or specialties. This role requires the ability to effectively prioritize and plan while problem-solving due to the changing nature of the work situation during surgical procedures. The individual must have the ability to recognize the need for immediate response during urgent or emergency situations. Basic knowledge of medical terminology, the metric system, and aseptic technique is necessary to apply this knowledge in all patient and family interactions. The individual is responsible for displaying aseptic technique in the performance of surgical duties to ensure positive patient outcomes. Responsibilities include the care, preparation, handling, and maintenance of surgical instrumentation. The Surgical Technician consistently performs sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure. Knowledge and adherence to professional standards of practice are required.
