About the PositionJob Title: Treatment Counselor Profession: Counseling Specialty: - Duration: 14 months Shift: Monday-Friday Hours per Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (3 days), 12:30 PM - 9:00 PM (2 nights) Experience: - One year of full-time counseling experience in a substance use disorder program is required. - Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. License: - A valid driver's license is required. Certifications: - Must possess an Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Counselor Certification by an accredited certifying organization. Must-Have: - High school diploma, GED certification, or equivalent is required. - Minimum age requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age. Description: The Treatment Counselor implements a wide range of alcohol and drug use programs. Provides case management and counseling services to inmates/residents assigned to the treatment program(s). Interviews and assesses prospective program participants. Gathers data using appropriate screening and assessment instruments. Establishes rapport with participants. Determines individual and group needs based on results of screening and assessment instruments and other collateral sources. Facilitates individual and group treatment interventions. Follows client, partner agency, and prevailing state regulations, statutes, policies, and procedures. Uses standardized offender assessment information in developing treatment plans or specific programs. Facilitates participant engagement in the treatment process. Promotes positive attitudes, skills, and coping mechanisms to encourage ongoing recovery. Plans participant incentives and uses appropriate therapeutic tools to manage behavioral issues or concerns. Maintains the confidentiality of clinical files for each participant. Documents treatment plans, monitors inmate progress, and reviews status of inmates/residents. Verifies that treatment and therapeutic programs are completed. Plans, develops, and conducts seminars, workshops, and specialized training programs in specific areas of treatment and prevention. Prepares and assists administrative and supervisory staff in the development of standard records, reports, and logs. Processes all reports and documents in a timely manner. Attends and actively participates in scheduled staff meetings, group meetings, and other activities essential for effective program and service delivery. Attends professional seminars, workshops, and conferences as required. Assists in supervising inmates/residents assigned to treatment programs. Enforces policies and rules governing inmate conduct to maintain the safety and security of facility operations.
