About the PositionJob Title: CT Scan Technologist Profession: CT Scan Technologist Specialty: - Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Wednesday - Saturday Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum 3 years required, 5 years preferred License: NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License Certifications: ARRT Certified R.T.(R) required, Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Must-Have: Trauma 1 center experience preferred, great patient care skills Description: The CT Scan Technologist performs computer tomography procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation. The technologist assists with interventional and therapeutic procedures. Performs complex CT procedures. Uses professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining patients' clinical history for procedures, ensuring information is documented and scanned into the system. Prepares, screens, and reviews the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with the patient and/or family member and scans it into the system. Identifies and/or administers contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. Reviews the patient prescription to verify the appropriateness of the exam. If the prescription is incorrect, communicates with the Radiologist and Referring Physician to obtain additional clinical information or a new prescription. Responsible for clarifying prescriptions in accordance with the appropriate CT protocols. Verifies insurance authorized exam scripts and sends exam modification forms for insurance re-verification. Responsible for obtaining outside studies and scheduling them in the system so they are available for comparison by Radiologists. Provides exam copies to the patient and requesting physician and/or family member. Evaluates radiographs using the system to ensure that they contain proper identification and are of diagnostic value. Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information to prepare protocols for scanning and patient safety. Determines whether the patient has been appropriately prepared for the procedure. Prepares patients for scanning, which includes shielding and immobilization devices. Determines the appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered. Provides accurate explanations and instructions at appropriate times and at a level the patient can understand. Addresses and documents patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure when appropriate. Performs venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines. Monitors the patient’s physical condition for any adverse reactions during the procedure. Responsible for scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends. Overtime may be required to provide continual quality patient care. On-call assignments may be needed according to department policy. Adheres to attendance and punctuality standards. Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands for a minimum of 6 hours a day. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care specific to those needs. Communicates with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level. Adheres to the standards identified in the Organizational Competencies and Standards of Behavior. Maintains CEU credits. Team members must achieve ARRT (CT) certification within twelve months of hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification must be obtained within three months of hire. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and radiological positioning of the human body is required. Understanding of mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware is necessary. Thorough knowledge of the system is essential. Preferred experience includes six months in CT. Knowledge of any Hospital Information System (HIS) or Radiology Information System (RIS) is advantageous.
