The University of California, Irvine Libraries seeks a creative, knowledgeable, and user-oriented Research Librarian for Health Sciences Education and Engagement (HSE&E) to join our collaborative team. This full-time librarian position is a key member of the 4-5 member Libraries’ Health Sciences team, leading the Libraries’ education programming with the School of Medicine. Research Librarian for HSE&E also provides research support, participates in the Libraries’ evidence synthesis and systematic review service, and serves as a liaison to one or more academic departments, including the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. As a member of the Department of Education and Outreach, the Research Librarian for HSE&E will also engage with broader library initiatives related to information literacy and student outreach. This position is based in Irvine but will require occasional travel to the UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange.

The Libraries’ physical spaces consist of the Langson Library, the Science Library, the Library Gateway Study Center, and the Grunigen Medical Library (located at the UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, CA).

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience based on the University of California pay scales. Appointment is anticipated to be at the Assistant Librarian, Associate Librarian, or Librarian rank with a salary of $72,224-$102,121. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and salary point at appointment. Librarians at UCI are academic appointees. Non-managerial librarians are represented by an exclusive bargaining agent, University Council – American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT). This is a represented position.

Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction:
o Collaborates with the School of Medicine and the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science to develop, implement, and coordinate the Libraries’ instruction programming in classroom-based, clinic-based, and virtual environments
o Contributes to the Libraries’ broader information literacy initiatives as a member of the Department of Education and Outreach
Research support:
o Supports the research needs of faculty, students, and researchers within health sciences and assigned areas
o Develops and maintains content, including research guides, to facilitate discovery of research resources
o Contributes to the Libraries’ evidence synthesis and systematic review service
Outreach and engagement:
o Engages with faculty, students, and researchers in the College of Health Sciences
o Collaborates with the Libraries’ health sciences team and colleagues at the Grunigen Medical Library to implement outreach initiatives at the UC Irvine Medical Center and other UCI Health locations
o Participates in general student outreach and engagement programming
Analyzes trends and manages resources and collections to support research, teaching, scholarly communications, and publishing in assigned areas
Contributes to library-wide teams and initiatives supporting the strategic goals of UC Irvine Libraries, serves on relevant committees, and participates in relevant professional organizations
Other duties as assigned, including permanent or interim subject liaison responsibilities depending on interests, background, and library needs.
Qualifications
Required
Graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or an equivalent combination of relevant advanced degree and library experience
Demonstrated teaching experience in a library or in higher education
Knowledge of information literacy frameworks and evidence-based medicine principles in health science disciplines
Demonstrated knowledge of research databases and search strategies in the health sciences
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively and fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment
Ability to meet the University of California criteria for advancement and promotion
Preferred
Educational background in the health sciences
Experience supporting health science-related subjects in an academic library
Demonstrated experience supporting evidence synthesis or systematic reviews
Demonstrated ability to develop accessible online curricular materials, such as guides, tutorials, videos, or other materials to support self-directed learning
