Baltimore Public Media (BPM) is the parent organization of WYPR 88.1 FM and WTMD 89.7 FM. Position Summary
The Show Producer is responsible for ideating to help generate local content, cross-departmental communication, and producing WYPR local news shows from concept to broadcast. The ideal candidate is curious about the intersection of local and national news and culture, and a skilled audio and video producer with a strong journalism background and social media experience. This position reports to WYPR’s Executive Producer and works closely with hosts, news team, and digital to deliver polished, community centered programming across platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Produce daily local news shows including booking, scripting, timing, and directing in a deadline driven environment.
Execute solid news judgment with an appreciation for issues important to Baltimore and Maryland
Craft engaging intros, questions and story angles with hosts and editorial leadership
Record, edit, and mix audio for broadcast to professional standards
Write and copy edit web copy
Produce, shoot, and edit short- and long-form digital video for web and social media
Troubleshoot technical challenges
Stay current on social media trends, tools, and best practices across platforms
Maintain flexibility in schedule to accommodate breaking news, live events, and shifting production needs
Qualifications
Minimum four years of directly applicable experience in radio, podcast, or multimedia production
Demonstrated journalism background with strong editorial instincts and news judgment.
Proven experience in social media content creation
Excellent storytelling skills across audio, video, and written formats
Proficiency with horizontal and vertical video production and graphic templates
Experience with audio production software and broadcast standards
Experience working with on-air talent and contributors
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaborate across teams
Able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Must have reliable transportation
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree required, new media, journalism, or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with podcast production workflows and distribution platforms
Background in SEO strategy and digital audience development
Experience with live streaming tools and remote contribution systems
