JOB SUMMARY
The Mechanical Operator I is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing machinery and equipment in water treatment plants, storage tanks, water pump stations and lift stations, and related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Operates and maintains process equipment at facilities.
- Performs basic process control measurements.
- Performs preventive maintenance such as checking and lubricating bearings and gear boxes, checking and replacing filters, checking packing temperatures, maintaining pump valves, blowers, screens, generators, etc.
- Assists with installations and repairs of equipment and facilities including wells, pump stations and storage tanks, engines, generators, pumps, filters, chemical feed systems, and other equipment.
- Replaces fuses and performs minor electrical repairs.
- Adjusts equipment and notifies the Operations Manager of need for repair work.
- Removes and cleans debris from sites to ensure a safe working environment.
- Performs general grounds keeping and landscaping duties such as mowing, weed eating, raking, painting, etc.
- Assists with the installation and removal of water meters.
- Ensures the company vehicle remains in optimal working conditions.
- Understands emergency response procedures.
- Establishes and maintains effective public and working relationships.
- Participates in various special projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.
DECISION MAKING
- The Mechanical Operator I works under Operations Manager.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 products, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Valid Class “C” Texas Drivers License consistent with CRWA driving policies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
- Class “D” Texas Water Distribution License.
- Valid Class “B” Commercial License.
- Strong working knowledge of SCADA system, and the GIS System.
- Forklift Certified.
- Heavy Equipment Certified.
- Welding and cutting torch experience to fuse metals together in construction, manufacturing, repair, and fabrication of projects.
- Adequate mechanical skills and knowledge to execute a wide range of repairs and maintenance services.
JOB DIMENSIONS
- Communicates effectively, verbally and in writing.
- May have contact with internal and external customers, regional purveyors, governmental agency representatives, landowners and permit holders, stakeholders, general public, consultants, and vendors.
- Travel to different sites and locations in company vehicle is required.
- May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule including nights and weekends.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Physical requirements include lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds occasionally; pushing a maximum force of 55 pounds. Subject to standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling and working in cramped and strained positions for long periods of time to perform job scope.
- Working conditions can be outside with frequent exposure to inclement weather; water; mechanical, electrical, chemical and confined space hazards; offensive fumes; excessive noise; deep excavations; and animals, snakes and poisonous insects. Must use personal protective equipment.
