DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Maintenance I or II Worker - Utility Operations - The Utility Operator position is distinguished as a position whose primary role is the operation of the Village’s Sewer and Water utilities, with only the occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise. Positions at this level are fully trained on the operation and maintenance of all commonly used equipment and machinery, and are thoroughly familiar with the operating procedures and policies of the assigned area of responsibility. This position will assist in other Public Works activities and services as needed.
DEFINITION
To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the operation, re-construction, maintenance, and repair of public facilities, including the areas of streets, water, sanitary sewers, lift stations, storm sewers, building maintenance, and forestry; and to provide courteous and efficient service to Village residents and the general public.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Maintenance I or II worker - Utility Operations - Receives general supervision from the Sewer Supervisor, and indirect supervision from the Director of Public Works.
May exercise technical and functional supervision over less experienced maintenance personnel.
Requirements
The selected candidate must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a minimum Class B and air brake endorsement, or obtain one within six (6) months of hire. The candidate must also obtain, or be close to obtaining, a Class 4 Wastewater Operator License and a Class D Water Works Operator License within three (3) years of hire and will be expected to progressively achieve higher levels of licensure in subsequent years.
Special emphasis will be placed on experience and qualifications related to wastewater operations and maintenance, as the Village is nearing completion of a major Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion and will require strong operational support in this area.
