GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR) is located just south of the Denver metro area in the beautiful state of Colorado. SMFR serves an approximate population of 580,000 residents and nearly 300 square miles across Arapahoe, Douglas, and Jefferson counties. This includes 13 cities, Centennial Airport, and 3 large office parks. The district has approximately 795 full-time employees, with approximately 625 line and 170 staff personnel, with an annual budget of over $225 million. In addition to the 30 fire stations strategically located throughout the District, the District operates administratively out of a headquarters building and two training centers, the Joint Service Facility (JSF) and the Troy Jackson Training Center (TJTC).
As a First Responder, the Emergency Communications Dispatcher is a specialized position performing multi-channel emergency radio and communications work for the Emergency Communications Center (a secondary Public Safety Answering Point for fire and emergency services). The Dispatcher is responsible for receiving and prioritizing emergency and non- emergency telephone calls from the public and primary Public Safety Answering Points. Work involves evaluating incoming calls to determine appropriate level of Fire/EMS assistance required, dispatching units, and transmitting information and messages upon request according to established procedures. This position monitors public safety units in the field, retrieves and enters computer data, operates TDD/TTY and other related communications equipment.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS (An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position is qualifying.)
Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED. Post-high school education at a technical or college level is preferred.
Three (3) years of Public Safety dispatching or 911 call center experience is required.
Requires current certifications in the following:
-CPR
-EMD – nonspecific
-ICS/NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800
-APCO Telecommunicator 1
Required to obtain and maintain the following certifications within one (1) year of employment:
-Priority Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD)
-Priority Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD)
-APCO Fire Service Communications
-ICS 300
-Blue Card Incident Command.
