- Funeral Director
Description
The Funeral Director is expected to maintain a professional and respectful appearance appropriate for serving families in our community while meeting with families to guide them through funeral arrangements with compassion, patience, and attention to detail. This role includes directing funeral services and visitations, ensuring each service is carried out smoothly and with dignity, as well as greeting and supporting families and guests, coordinating pallbearers, and working closely with clergy and other service participants. Responsibilities also include preparing and/or coordinating all necessary documentation, such as death certificates and permits. The Funeral Director will perform removals and transport the deceased from the place of death with care and respect, carry out embalming in accordance with professional standards and applicable regulations, and maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary preparation room and work environment.
Requirements
The ideal candidate must be a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in the State of Illinois (or eligible for licensure) and hold a degree in Mortuary Science or a related field. A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work compassionately and professionally with grieving families. The role requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities. Candidates must be able to perform physical tasks associated with removals and lifting, possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, and participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
The schedule includes one day off during the week and every other weekend, with some holidays and evenings required as part of the rotating on-call and service schedule.
