Description
The City of Flint, MI (Pop. 96,500) is seeking a procurement professional to join their finance team. This position is ideal for the professional who is seeking a challenging and rewarding experience in a community “on the come-back trail,” with strong support from major foundations and state government.
Flint is a mid-sized, mid-western city with an economy built on industrial manufacturing, continuing education, and medical research. Located on the Flint River, the city is the regional hub of Genesee County (Pop. 400,000).
General Motors and the UAW both claim the city as their birthplace. Flint is the community that developed the very concepts of community foundations, land banks, and community schools -- all of which became national models. Innovative work now is underway here to prove the value of universal access to early childhood education (birth to 5) and how planning can help a city evolve and flourish after significant population loss.
Those with active and social lifestyles enjoy opportunities to recreate in revitalized Downtown Flint including organized groups of kayakers along the Flint River, joggers, runners, and bicyclists which gather on regular schedules. Venues offering cultural events are plentiful along with other amenities typically only available in much larger communities.
In 2023 Flint brought in a new finance team which has made significant strides in upgrading the accounting practices, providing timely reports, and improving municipal finances. The purchasing director position will play a key role in providing stability and long-term sustainability in the organization. This position has supervisory responsibility for two full-time staff positions and will report to the Chief Financial Officer. Based on the responsibilities of the position, the successful candidate will be required to work in the offices of the Finance Department, currently located in City Hall.
A bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field along with seven years of experience in purchasing management are required. The starting salary range for the position is $96,643.50—$107,150.37.
