Position Concept: The Director of Instruction at Sylvania Country Club is responsible for designing, managing, promoting, budgeting, scheduling, and conducting comprehensive golf instruction programs tailored to the evolving needs of our diverse and dynamic membership. The ideal candidate embodies our Club's commitment to enriching lives through the sport of golf, cultivating a culture characterized by passion, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Facility Information: Sylvania Country Club is a premier, private golf facility offering an 18-hole championship golf course located in Sylvania, Ohio. Established with a rich tradition and commitment to excellence, Sylvania Country Club is dedicated to providing exceptional golf and social experiences to our esteemed membership.

Reporting Structure: This position reports directly to the Head Golf Professional.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Specific Responsibilities: Golf Instruction

• Develop, manage, and oversee comprehensive golf instruction and player development programs.
• Coordinate and maintain instructional schedules, ensuring optimal availability and member satisfaction.
• Maintain teaching equipment and aids in exceptional condition.
• Participate actively in meetings scheduled by the management team, including sessions with the Head Golf Professional, General Manager, and Golf Course Superintendent.
• Actively engage with the local community, representing Sylvania Country Club positively through targeted promotional activities and programs.

• Innovate and develop instructional programs that resonate with our diverse membership and enhance their golfing experience.
• Collaborate in the marketing and promotion of instructional programs to increase engagement and participation.
• Create player development pathways that cater to both recreational golfers seeking enjoyment and competitive golfers aiming to elevate their performance.

Relationships

• Maintain consistent, open communication with supervisors, golf professionals, and staff to foster teamwork, clarity, and uniformity in all instructional offerings.
• Exhibit a welcoming, approachable personality, positively reflecting on the club's culture and values.

Education and Professional Development

• Continuously enhance professional expertise through relevant educational courses, certifications, and training programs related to golf instruction, player development, management, and operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Traits

• Maintain PGA of America membership in good standing and support apprentices in their journey through the teaching component of the PGA Professional Golf Management Program.
• Comprehensive knowledge of golf fundamentals, rules, instructional methodologies, and teaching innovations.
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills, serving as an exemplary role model in professional conduct, work ethic, and enthusiasm.
• Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritization capabilities.
• Driven, self-motivated professional with a proactive approach to promoting and marketing golf instruction.
• Exceptional customer service orientation with superior interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency in business communications, both written and oral.
• Skilled in computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, email, internet, social media, and specialized golf software (tournament management, customer relations, and database management).
• Commitment to attending professional conferences, workshops, and trade shows to stay current with industry trends and best practices.
• Promote and uphold a positive, professional image within the community and industry.
• Maintain credible playing ability and stay informed on instructional innovations, industry marketing strategies, and business trends.

Compensation:

• Independent Contractor status
• Director of Instruction retains 80% of lesson revenue; Sylvania Country Club retains 20%.
• Meal allowance
• Clothing allowance
