Job DescriptionJob DescriptionOur organization is seeking applications and nominations for the role of Chair of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at the Women's & Families Hospital. This position presents a remarkable opportunity for a distinguished and forward-thinking leader to steer a vibrant academic department dedicated to clinical excellence, education, research, and community involvement in one of the most diverse urban environments in the country.
For over a century, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at our institution has provided compassionate, high-quality care to the surrounding communities, particularly excelling in high-risk obstetrics and advanced gynecological services. As a prominent academic and teaching facility, our faculty and trainees engage in extensive research and educational initiatives. The affiliated hospital supports a robust residency program with 25 trainees, serves as the primary clinical site for medical students, encompasses all OB/GYN subspecialties, and offers a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology.
Key priorities for the Chair/CMO include:
- Expanding the Department's clinical reach to improve access to quality care for underserved populations.
- Enhancing community engagement.
- Leading efforts in physician and faculty recruitment, development, and retention.
- Fostering new business and academic partnerships.
- Encouraging scholarly productivity and advancing medical education programs.
- Ensuring departmental programs meet or exceed the quality standards set by the health system.
The CMO will be tasked with delivering high-quality, evidence-based clinical care through sound clinical judgment, precise assessment, and personalized care planning. This role involves leadership in patient safety, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, capacity management, resource utilization, and interdisciplinary collaboration to guarantee excellent patient outcomes. Additionally, the CMO will act as the physician leader and representative for the Women's Hospital, advocating for service excellence, accountability, and ongoing improvement across teams and systems.
The incoming Chair/CMO will take on the role of academic, clinical, and administrative leader of the Department, overseeing all departmental activities across the hospital campuses, including the newly established facility, which is the only one of its kind in the region. Close collaboration with health system leadership will be essential to further the Department's mission and strategic goals. The Chair will provide clear tactical guidance and inspire excellence in clinical service, education, and scholarly activities, nurturing a culture of collaboration, growth, innovation, and continuous improvement. In all clinical and academic pursuits, the Chair/CMO will work alongside the Dean to ensure outstanding training experiences for medical students, residents, and fellows.
The ideal candidate will be a highly accomplished academic physician with proven experience in clinical leadership, program development, faculty recruitment and mentorship, operational and fiscal management, and academic success. They will exemplify integrity, inclusivity, and institutional stewardship while fostering a culture of respect, accountability, and community involvement.
The perfect candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of emerging trends in women's health, population health, and academic medicine, along with the capability to forge strong relationships across institutional and community landscapes. Core Leadership Responsibilities:
- Formulate and implement a strategic plan for the Department that aligns with the broader strategic objectives of the organization, focusing on Clinical Care, Educational Mission, Faculty Mentoring, Research, and Administrative responsibilities.
- Foster an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, and belonging for all individuals.
- Develop and execute strategies to engage with local communities, building trust and fostering partnerships.
- Collaborate with Faculty Affairs and Education to create faculty programs that promote academic and professional growth.
- Manage departmental resources for clinical, research, and educational initiatives effectively and prudently.
- Maintain open and frequent communication with leadership, faculty, and staff to ensure alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and goals.
- Devise a plan for recruiting, supporting, and mentoring faculty, participating in their career development and retention efforts, and conducting annual evaluations.
- Provide administrative oversight and guidance to the department's faculty and staff.
- Plan effectively for anticipated clinical service demands, ensuring adequate facilities, technologies, operations, staffing, and outreach activities.
- Ensure clinical operations are patient-centered, efficient, effective, high-quality, and safe.
- Advance research initiatives in line with the growth of clinical programs.
- Promote a culture of excellence within the department and the Women's and Families Hospital.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Exceptional ability to collaborate with leaders across various entities to advance medical education.
- Commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards and maintaining the integrity of the organization.
- A distinguished record of scholarly, educational, research, and/or clinical accomplishments in the field.
Education:
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency program.
- Three-year fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology.
