What do you want to know? Requirements? Fair. We require our attorneys to be licensed in Washington State. In this instance we are looking for an attorney with three or more years of family law experience. Enough to know what you should be doing for a case and strategizing for the case. You should know how to direct staff to intelligently assist. You should be aware of when you need to ask for some mentorship as well.
What is it like working for the firm? Hard. We don't clock in at 9 and promptly punch out at 4:30p in the middle of a deposition. We must get the job done under the timelines set to get the best results our clients expect. Is that different than anywhere else? Probably not. We’re just honest about it. Being a lawyer is not always a life of luxury. Again... we’re honest. We’re honest with our applicants, employees, and clients.
We want someone who embodies candor and excellence in their legal work and clients as well. That way clients can trust you, and you can get them the best results possible. We also want someone who can communicate exceptionally with clients from the initial case review through finalization.
Our attorneys must be able to manage their caseload effectively. If not obvious, we are hiring someone who can craft their arguments, go to court, talk directly to their clients, etc. This is not a background associate tasked with a bunch of “research” tasks that pad billable hour requirements. Legal research is part of the job, and legal writing is a bigger part. The biggest part is fearlessly being at the frontline and effectively solving the client’s problem.
Why go through all of that?
You made it through all the scary bits in this posting? Excellent. What do we offer. We offer a competitive salary, which can be outside the above range for the right candidate. Revenue sharing is a possibility once minimal billables are met.
The support staff is here to support you. You need to focus on providing the best legal expertise to our clients, and anything that is not providing legal expertise should be delegated to the staff supporting you to become the best attorney you can be.
A partnership path in the firm is available for the right attorney over time. Not a pointless title, but an equity ownership opportunity. This is a medium-to-long path, not next year. This is for someone who cares about the firm at an organizational level, who knows the people in the firm are everything, and who wants to create an organization that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Work times – You do you, boo. There are required things to be done, and the majority of them are not time of the day dependent. Hearings, client meetings, case reviews, depositions, and other things are time dependent. You have to be there for those. Otherwise, meet your deadlines and minimum billable requirements.
Maybe you already have a job and are just looking. Give us a call or send us an email. Maybe you know someone that is looking or that you think should be looking for a change. Seriously, call us.
We look forward to meeting you even if it doesn’t turn out to be a good match!
Requirements
Three years of family law experience.
