Company Overview
YIF is a Seattle-based nonprofit with a mission to equip youth to share their ideas and values with the world through photography and art. As the only photography-specific youth development organization in Seattle, YIF provides free and pay-what-you-can programs for youth ages 13-19, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and career-connected learning. Through after school classes, mentorship, and hands-on training, students gain technical skills while developing confidence and self-expression. YIF prioritizes equitable access, ensuring historically underserved youth have the tools, resources, and opportunities to explore artistic and professional pathways.
With a 30-year history, YIF has empowered thousands of youth through accessible arts education, fostering personal and artistic growth. In 2024 alone, we served 457 students with over 850 hours of instruction and awarded $26,770 in youth stipends across our Creative Career Cohort, Job Training Program, and Youth Advisory Board.
We center teens who are disproportionately impacted by historical and current inequities. 70% of young people in our programs are BIPOC, more than 50% experience poverty, 15% are English language learners, and 43% identify as LGBTQ+ - all of whom have disproportionate access to educational justice and accessible arts programming.

Company History
For 30+ years, YIF has successfully championed youth, invested in their growth and development, and helped them develop skills and confidence. We have cared for and served thousands of teens, including those furthest from educational justice and access to opportunity. Our inclusive programming and focus on photography and digital media is particularly resonate with the growing demand for visual communication to address and confront social justice issues of immediate importance to our youth and community.
In addition to our longstanding and well-respected service in the Seattle community, we are currently the only photography-based youth development organization in the region. We are one of the only arts education organizations in Seattle focused on teens aged 13-19. As such, we are trained to engage youth and help successfully situate them for life beyond their secondary education. As a small and nimble organization fueled by our values of centering youth, equity, creativity, welcoming, learning, and joy, we are able to quickly adapt to meet the evolving needs of our students and community.
Benefits
Youth in Focus offers the following benefits to full-time employees:
• Hybrid In-Person/Remote work schedule
• $6,000 QSEHRA annual benefit to reimburse eligible health, dental, and vision insurance premiums and/or medical expenses
• Opportunity to contribute to Simple IRA retirement plan with 3% employer match
• Two weeks Paid-Time-Off first year; three weeks thereafter (accrual basis)
• 12 paid holidays per year, plus two additional weeks of paid holiday each year – the week between December 24 and January 1 and the week of Seattle Public School Spring Break (April)
• Two weeks paid sick leave per year
• Access to secured, covered parking spot for in-person hours
• Casual work environment; hybrid in-person/remote schedule
