Company Overview

BASTA Universal! (BU) is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to fighting housing inequality and housing insecurity by defending the rights of tenants throughout Los Angeles County. We believe that housing is a human right, and we are committed to zealous advocacy, working tirelessly to make a real difference in the lives of our clients and in the systems that harm them.

As one of the largest free housing legal services providers in Los Angeles County, BU is proud to be a core member of the Stay Housed LA (SHLA) program and the Right to Counsel (RTC) coalition, which recently helped establish a legal right to counsel for tenants facing eviction in the City of Los Angeles. We represent tenants in nine courthouses and operate four full-service offices across the county.
