Description

The Leroy T. Canoles Jr. Cancer Research Center at Eastern Virginia Medical School is in search of a candidate to fulfill the duties of a full time Research Associate II position in the Center for Biomedical Proteomics. The ideal candidate will have at minimum, a Master’s degree in biomedical sciences or related field, plus five (5) years’ research laboratory experience. PhD holders are strongly encouraged to apply. Molecular biology, Mass Spectrometry, Liquid Chromatography and Proteomics experience is required and Bioinformatics Analysis expertise will be an added advantage. Experience with Thermo, ABSciex and Bruker Daltonics MS instrumentation and software including operating Tribrid Orbitrap Fusion Lumos, Q-Exactive Orbitrap, Q-TRAP 4000 Triple Quadrupole and Ultraflex III Mass spectrometers is preferred. LC systems include EASY-nLC 1200, EASY-nLC 1000, Agilent 1200 and Eksigent NanoLC system.

This position will work under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator and should have expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry and macromolecular analysis techniques including proteomics, glycomics and metabolomics. Mass Spectrometry experience is required. The position will be responsible for managing the operations of the proteomics laboratory, mass spectrometry analyses, method development, facility and instrument operations and maintenance and all associated transactions and reporting. Ability to multi-task in a highly dynamic environment and flexibility to work in a fast-paced team in a professional and pleasant manner is a necessity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                                                                          Managing the day-to-day operations of the Proteomics Facility.                                                                                        Operating Mass Spectrometers and accessory instrumentation.                                                                                                    Overseeing and maintaining essential equipment MS instruments and Liquid Chromatography equipment.                                    Adopting and developing novel qualitative and quantitative proteomic analysis techniques to advance research programs of the Proteomics Facility.                                                                                                                                                                            Effective communication with Faculty and other Proteomics Facility users.                                                                                    Responsible for accurate documentation of methods, results and data for research projects.                                                        Ensure compliance to all the relevant institutional policies with respect to all research and laboratory activities.                              Assist in the preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication.                                                                                                Practice a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality. Perform other duties as assigned.
