The Director of Development works directly with the CEO to create an effective sustainability platform for Pet Pantry’s immediate and long-term strategic needs and growth. The successful candidate will be a skilled relationship builder who firmly believes in the organization’s mission and can inspire others through both spoken and written communication. This position manages existing revenue streams (individuals, grants, corporations/foundations, special events, sponsorships, email, Lancaster’s ExtraGive event, and direct mail/newsletter appeals) while working to identify and implement additional funding sources. The Director of Development ensures that external communications for development and marketing are consistent in messaging.
Key Functions:
Devise, implement and manage an annual development plan that targets revenue growth in the areas of individual giving, grants, and corporate partnerships.
Develop relationships with new donors and cultivate existing donor relationships while working to strategically increase support of the organization’s mission.
Work with the CEO to develop a stewardship plan for key donors by connecting them to opportunities of interest.
Research and write persuasive, detailed grant proposals for submission to funders. Track outcomes and complete grant evaluation reports as required.
Work closely with Pet Pantry leadership to ensure[1] program funding is being managed in accordance with related grant guidelines.
Manage revenue budget goals and prepare monthly development reports for the Co-Founder/CEO.
Identify volunteer needs and recruit diverse committees to coordinate successful development initiatives.
Represent Pet Pantry, at community meetings and philanthropic-related events.
Attend board committee meetings when asked by the CEO and serve as the staff liaison in planning and executing special events.
Maintain a supportive/administrative role in the planning and implementation of the final phase of the organization's current capital campaign.
Manage the donor database including data entry, gift processing, and timely gift acknowledgment.
Develop and implement a planned giving program to ensure the future receipt of endowment-growing and potentially transformative gifts.
Follow ethical practices associated with the profession and with the guidelines, policies, and mission of the organization.

A minimum of five years’ constituent relationship-building and income development experience.
Proven history of meeting fundraising goals.
Experience identifying, recruiting, and stewarding volunteers by establishing successful volunteer-staff partnerships.
Excellent listening and critical thinking skills.
Life-long learner.
Proficient budget manager that minimizes expenses and maximizes funding opportunities.
Initiative-taker and analytic thinker with solid project management skills.
Must be a persuasive writer, capable editor, and accurate proofreader.
Confident and inspirational public speaker.
Demonstrated success through team collaboration.
Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours as program requirements dictate.
Proficient with Microsoft Office, donor database software, desktop publishing, website management and social media promotion.
Valid PA Driver’s License and reliable transportation required.
