Position Description:

We are pleased to invite well qualified individuals to apply to the Oregon Health & Science University’s Advanced Cardiac Imaging Fellowship. The 1-year program is designed to help fellows develop the necessary skills to be a successful academic multimodality cardiovascular imager. The fellow will have dedicated time for research and will be expected to work on independent research projects under the mentorship of one or more faculty. Our curriculum focuses on clinical skills in advanced echocardiography, cardiac MRI, cardiac CT, and nuclear imaging.

The experience in echocardiography will cover advanced skills beyond general cardiology training and the fellow will be exposed to and become an expert in:

• 3-dimensional imaging
• Strain imaging
• Interventional echocardiography
• Adult congenital echocardiography
• Contrast echocardiography

Fellows will have the opportunity to play an integral role in our structural echo procedures (TAVR, mitral and tricuspid interventions, ASD closures, valve-in-valve procedures, paravalvular leak closures, alcohol septal ablations). Our institution is proud to have access to the latest technologies from multiple vendors with opportunities to learn on the latest state of the art imaging equipment. Additional clinical skills are developed in the arena of adult congenital heart disease by rotating through congenital clinics.

The experience in cardiac MRI will cover the imaging of cardiomyopathies (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, other genetic cardiomyopathies, sarcoidosis), myocarditis, cardiac tumors/masses, pericardial disease, adult congenital heart disease, and valvular heart disease. The fellow will be involved in the protocoling, supervising the acquisition, and reporting of cardiac MRI exams.

The experience in cardiac CT will include coronary imaging (CAC score and CTA), pre- and post-procedural interventional imaging (TAVR, TMVR, TTVR, ASD, LAAO), and adult congenital heart disease. The daily work will include the protocoling, supervising the acquisition, and reporting of cardiac CT exams. The fellow will work in a multidisciplinary team, which includes cardiologists, radiologists, interventional cardiologists, and cardiothoracic surgeons. The fellow will have an opportunity to attend and present during structural and adult congenital heart disease conferences.  

The experience in nuclear cardiology will cover myocardial perfusion imaging with SPECT and PET, PET imaging of inflammatory cardiomyopathies, and amyloid imaging. They will have opportunities to work with novel MRI/PET scanner.

Goals and Objectives for Training:

The goal of our program is to train outstanding clinicians in multimodality cardiac imaging, including echocardiography, CT, MRI and PET/nuclear imaging. This post-graduate fellowship is directed toward producing subspecialists who are proficient in at least two modalities of cardiac imaging (level III training achieved in at least two modalities). The graduating fellow will be able to independently interpret echocardiography, CT, MRI and PET/nuclear imaging. The fellow will be able to lead an imaging laboratory.   

Modalities: Tailored to the fellow, but will include advanced echocardiography, CT, MR and/or nuclear imaging.

Prerequisite Training/Selection Criteria:

• Completion of three years training in an Internal Medicine Residency Training program accredited by ACGME
• Completion of three years training in a Cardiology Medicine Fellowship Training program accredited by ACGME
• Graduates of medical schools outside the U.S. who meet the following: 
• Have a valid certificate from the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. (US citizen or green card holder). This program cannot support visas. 
• Completion of three years training in an Internal Medicine Training Program accredited by ACGME
• Completion of three years training in a Cardiology Medicine Fellowship Training program accredited by ACGME
• Be able to meet licensure requirements of the Oregon Medical Board.
