The Technology & Climate Tech Commercial Insurance Underwriting Leader will oversee multiple high-priority underwriting teams in the Pacific Region with the strategic mandate to build underwriting capability and accelerate talent development while driving profitable top-line growth on a multi-line, Middle Market Technology & Climate Tech book of business.
Key Responsibilities
Production, Territory & Portfolio Development
Drive business growth and profitability across multiple geographies in the Pacific Region, with a specific focus on Middle Market and Lower Middle Market Technology & Climate Tech business.
Lead territory development for Technology & Climate Tech across the Pacific North and Pacific South, deepening broker relationships and expanding targeted segments.
Team & Talent Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing underwriting teams focused on achieving the business plans within each branch, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and results-driven culture.
Develop local team leads and underwriters, including succession planning and underwriting talent development to build a strong leadership bench.
Evaluate, select, underwrite, price, quote, and maintain new and renewal business in line with Chubb's underwriting strategies and risk appetite.
Serve as a technical underwriting resource across all lines of business, in collaboration with Pacific Region leadership, Product, and Territory Underwriting Managers (TUMs).
Handle referrals within letter of authority and facilitate strong referrals to TUMs and IP leaders.
Quality Assurance - Monitor underwriting quality through quarterly self-audits, referral interactions, and Corporate Underwriting Audits to ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Business Development, Go-to-Market & Producer Management
Manage the local producer plant to ensure cohesive and consistent agency management strategies across Technology & Climate Tech business.
Drive execution of the go-to-market strategy and customer engagement, inclusive of BDM engagement and disciplined production planning.
Facilitate product education and appetite discussions and serve as the point person for key local producer relationships.
Cultivate strong business relationships with brokers and clients to support a healthy flow of new business opportunities.
Marketing & Retention
Develop and implement marketing plans with brokers and clients to drive profitable business growth.
Retain accounts through active participation in Chubb Stewardship and Enterprise Account processes, ensuring long-term client satisfaction and loyalty.
Staff Development & Administration - Oversee new hire onboarding, training, succession planning, performance management, and staff retention across the underwriting teams.
Forecasting & Reporting - Forecast monthly production, annual plans, and pipeline to regional and product leadership, ensuring alignment with business objectives and transparency of results.
Travel - Willingness and ability to travel within the Pacific to meet with clients, partners, and team members as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
4-year college degree in insurance, business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
10+ years of underwriting and portfolio management experience, including time spent managing large, complex portfolios of Technology business.
5+ years of management experience with a track record of leading high-performing underwriting teams and other underwriting leaders.
Strong West Coast broker relationships, particularly with brokers that specialize in Technology and Climate Tech business.
Demonstrated ability to develop talent, build high-performing teams, and top-grade underwriting talent.
Strong presentation, public speaking, and negotiation skills.
Knowledge and understanding of current insurance marketplace conditions, particularly in Technology and Climate Tech segments.
Understanding and adherence to organizational and regulatory rules, with the ability to operate within underwriting authority.
High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
The pay range for the role is $175,000 to $210,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant's skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program. Chubb offers a comprehensive benefits package, more details on which can be found on our careers website.
