Under the general supervision of the Deputy Director of Public Works – Utility Operations, and in partnership with the Water Efficiency Coordinator, the Seasonal Water Efficiency Technician supports customer service and administrative duties for the City of Golden’s water conservation and drought response initiatives. Responsibilities include analyzing trends and water use data, monitoring water use, identifying potential waste, conducting outreach to residents and businesses, and assisting with public education efforts. The Water Efficiency Technician ensures compliance with local watering regulations and promotes efficient water use to protect Golden’s water resources, including Clear Creek and the City’s potable water system. The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive.
- Review Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) & Aquahawk data to monitor water use, leaks, and irrigation schedules.
- Enter data into the City’s OMS/GIS Utility system accurately and timely.
- Organizes complex data sets and transforms data into useful analysis and reporting to help inform strategies for water use reductions by use class.
- Observe and assess FixIt reports for potential water waste, such as overspray, runoff to sidewalks/streets, or watering during restricted hours.
- Provide friendly, educational outreach and attend community events to engage with residents and businesses about water conservation rules, best practices, available resources, and seasonal watering requirements.
- Respond to and follow up on customer inquiries related to water use and irrigation concerns.
- Issue notices or warnings for irrigation violations in accordance with City policies.
- Assist with public education efforts and drought awareness initiatives.
- Coordinate with City staff to follow up on repeat violations or complex cases.
- Maintain accurate records of observations, data, and communications.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Requirements
High School diploma or GED required. Minimum one year’s experience in customer service required. Direct experience or education in data analytics and/or water utilities preferred. College coursework or experience in environmental science, data analytics, water resources, sustainability, or related fields preferred. Experience or familiarity with irrigation systems, landscaping practices, and water efficiency principles preferred. Experience with data analysis, monitoring systems, or public outreach is preferred. Must have excellent verbal, written, and customer communication skills.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver's license and good driving record.

Ability to understand basic numerical concepts, percentages, ratios, and data analysis.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems, manage a variety of variables, and adapt to changing situations. Demonstrated attention to detail.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong customer service skills with the ability to educate and engage the public. Ability to use software for data evaluation, collection, and reporting. A willingness to learn City procedures, water conservation and drought practices, and safety requirements. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision. Ability to adapt to changing situations. Ability to work cooperatively as a part of a team.

Computer, AMI monitoring system, Excel and Microsoft products, vehicle for field work or events.
