Since Evergreen was founded, they have successfully influenced the U.S. climate policy landscape. They played a pivotal role in the passage and implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), helped set critical federal standards on pollution, and aided in critical state wins like Michigan’s 2023 100% clean energy standard. Now, under the Trump administration, they are helping states both achieve bold climate progress and defend against attacks on progress, building momentum toward a cross-state climate affordability agenda and renewed climate leadership.
The Opportunity
Evergreen’s VP, Policy is charged with developing and executing a bold, actionable policy agenda for states and the country to continue leading on climate. As a member of the Evergreen leadership team, the VP, Policy will work with Evergreen’s Executive Director and VP for States to identify policy priorities to address the climate crisis and build a more equitable world. They will also play an integral role in the work building the political conditions to make these policies a reality at the state and federal level, by designing policy interventions that meet the current political moment and coaching other members of the team on doing the same for their portfolios. As part of this, the VP, Policy is tasked with building, strengthening and managing diverse organizational partnerships that will fortify the climate movement by working to advance intersectional policies and strategies that align with the organizational mission.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an experienced climate policy leader with a strong track record of advancing ambitious state and federal climate policy in complex political environments. They bring deep expertise in policy development and advocacy, with a clear understanding of how state and federal policy interact to drive meaningful climate action grounded in equity and justice. They will ideally have issue knowledge/expertise in clean power, expanding sustainable transportation, and building decarbonization best practices.
