Position Summary:
The Department of Chemistry and Physics at Arkansas State University invites applications for a full-time Teaching Assistant Professor of Physics starting in the 2026-2027 academic year. We are seeking a colleague who can contribute across the span of our physics curriculum. The faculty member will be housed in the Department of Chemistry and Physics in the Beck College of Sciences and Mathematics. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching mission of the Department of Chemistry and Physics through participation in the development/implementation of undergraduate curricula.
The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the department chair; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member.
Applicants with training in physics education research, guided inquiry techniques, and/or teaching introductory physics for life and health science majors are encouraged to apply.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Teaching:
- Teach lecture and laboratory sections for first- and second-year Physics majors and non-majors.
- Potential to teach upper-division electives for junior and senior Physics majors.
- Maintain regular weekly office hours to provide academic support and guidance to students enrolled in assigned courses.
Departmental Engagement:
- Participate in departmental faculty meetings focused on departmental operations and planning, faculty development, including pedagogical strategies and student support initiatives.
- Participation in departmental and college service committees.
- While research is not required, contributions in this area, alongside demonstrated teaching excellence, can support promotion to higher ranks (Associate or Full Professor of Teaching).
Secondary Duties
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned or directed to support departmental needs and align with the mission of the Department of Chemistry and Physics, the Beck College of Sciences and Mathematics, and the University.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Previous undergraduate teaching experience preferred.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Master's in physics or a closely related discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related discipline, or those with a combination of education and professional experience that provide commensurate qualifications.
2. Candidates should be highly committed to excellence in teaching undergraduates. While this is primarily a teaching position, the ability to conduct scholarly research with our undergraduate students is valued.
