As a Day Camp Counselor, you'll lead fun, engaging activities, provide caring supervision, and help campers build confidence, friendships, and new skills in a supportive, joyful environment. Position Overview
Day Camp Counselors are the heart of our program, guiding groups of children through themed days filled with games, arts, sports, and adventure. You'll ensure every camper feels safe, included, and excited while modeling respect, teamwork, and enthusiasm. This role offers hands-on experience in child development, leadership, and creative programming in a dynamic outdoor setting.
Key Responsibilities
Provide constant, attentive supervision to ensure camper safety and well-being at all times
Plan, lead, and adapt age-appropriate, engaging activities aligned with daily themes (including arts, creative writing, performing arts, games, and more)
Foster positive relationships, belonging, and social-emotional growth through encouragement, conflict resolution, and individual support
Communicate camp rules, schedules, and expectations clearly; enforce them consistently and fairly
Collaborate with co-counselors to manage group dynamics, track attendance, locate absent campers, and ensure smooth program flow
Administer first aid, respond to minor injuries/illnesses, promote hygiene, and implement emergency procedures as needed
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free camp environment; report issues promptly
Attend weekly staff meetings, training sessions, and contribute to team planning
Provide feedback to parents/guardians and assist with drop-off/pick-up or field trip transportation as assigned
Act as a positive role model, promoting respect, cooperation, teamwork, and fun
Complete other duties as assigned to support overall camp success
Qualifications & Skills
At least 18 years old with one year of college coursework or equivalent experience working with children
Current certification in First Aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain before camp starts)
Passion for working with kids and creating fun, inclusive experiences
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills—especially strong in performing arts, creative writing, and/or visual arts (preferred)
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage time and multitask in a fast-paced environment
Understanding of child development, positive behavior guidance, and conflict resolution
Flexibility, adaptability, and a positive, enthusiastic attitude
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Commitment to safety, inclusivity, and professional growth
Must pass a comprehensive background check and pre-employment health screening
Physical Requirements
This active role requires:
Participating fully in camp activities (running, playing games, etc.)
Standing, walking, kneeling, bending, and lifting/carrying equipment up to 30–50 lbs
Clear vision and hearing to monitor safety and respond quickly
Schedule & Commitment
Seasonal: Approximately June 2 – July 31 (~8 weeks)
Full-time daytime hours, Monday–Friday (exact times TBD based on camp schedule, approx 8am-4pm)
Mandatory pre-camp training and orientation
Compensation & Perks
Weekly pay: $400 – $500 DOE (based on experience)
All meals provided (Room & Board if non-local applicant)
