Description
In the beautiful North Woods of Minnesota, Concordia Language Villages summer camps offer opportunities for immersive learning in 14 different languages for campers ages 6-18. We are currently hiring staff for ours summer youth programs in Arabic, Chinese, Danish, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish. From the music played to the dishes used in the dining hall, each Village reflects the cultures it was designed to represent. Our dedicated staff is essential to creating the unique, immersive experience our participants have come to love.
Camp counselors will:
- Speak the target language with children (“villagers”) and other staff members as much as possible
- Teach language through activities (art, sports, traditional culture) and interactive lessons
- Participate in all aspects of Village life, including meals, song times, evening programs, cultural presentations, and staff meetings.
- Lead games, Cabin Council and other activities to create a cabin community.
- Live in a cabin with villagers, as part of a counseling team, to provide supervision.
- Assist with light cleaning of the Village site (including cabins, bathrooms, activity areas, etc.) with villagers and counseling team to ensure a safe, hygienic space for everyone.
- Be a positive role model for desired behaviors among villagers, including the use of target language.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Completed two years of language study or have equivalent fluency
- Broad knowledge of the culture and activities of the language.
- At least 18 years of age for Counselor positions; 16 for Junior Counselor positions
- At least one year experience working with children preferred
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
- Model maturity and good judgment
- Enjoy interacting with and managing children
- Demonstrated adaptability in changing situations
Salaries begin at $340/week for new camp counselors, plus room and board.
