Make your summer count working outdoors with Highlands Ranch Metro District as a Seasonal Forestry Technician, supporting tree care, landscaping, and grounds maintenance throughout the community.
What You’ll Be Doing
Watering newly planted trees using a water tank truck.
Assist staff with tree pruning, tree removal, stump grinding, tree planting, plant health care, tree inventory, general landscaping and grounds maintenance
Assist with all aspects of municipal urban tree care maintenance.
Participate in special events and assist as needed with other sections within the Park, Recreation and Open Space Department.
Work with other divisions within the department as needed and assigned.

What We’re Looking For
Age 18+
Reliable, motivated, and a great team player
Excited to work outdoors and learn new skills
Able to pass a background and motor vehicle check
Two (2) years of field experience in the tree care industry or educational field of study.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
Lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time.
Perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Use equipment and tools properly and safely.
Understand, follow, and transmit written and verbal instructions.
Establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
Represent the District in a professional manner, exemplifying integrity and excellence always.
Maintain a good driving record.
Supervision Received
Works under the general guidance and direction of the Forestry Supervisor and Technicians.
Work Schedule
Works a flexible 40-hour week schedule. Work schedule will vary from Monday through Friday with the daily workday varying between 6:00 a.m. to sunset. Work schedules will vary depending on weather conditions, projects, events and programs, meeting and/or staffing levels and will include evenings, early mornings, and weekend hours. May be required to work holidays as staffing needs dictate. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
Tools and Equipment Used
May operate a variety of equipment including rope and saddle tree climbing equipment, chain saw, woodchipper, aerial lift truck, stump grinder, high pressure sprayer, water tank truck, snow removal equipment, skid steer, tractors, backhoe, ATV, desktop and laptop computer, and various size trucks with manual transmission. Computer, web-based software, calculator, phone, general office and breakroom equipment.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
