The SCA’s Architecture and Engineering Department is responsible for development of scope, design, and construction documents for new school buildings, additions, lease conversions and renovation work of existing schools for New York City’s 1.1 million students. Our projects are intentionally and thoughtfully designed; positive impact design is at the forefront of all our projects. Our In-House studio is a multidisciplinary practice that is responsible for designing some of the largest and most complex schools in our 1,500+ school portfolio. Our other two studios manage external consultants from design inception to completion. Our three studios are comprised of talented architects and engineers who are driven to deliver high quality custom designed, sustainable, and resilient public schools.

The Studio is looking for plumbing, mechanical and electrical engineers with experience in the design of related systems of buildings
Work arrangement: Hybrid Remote

Salary range: $111,900 to $166,781
Responsibilities Include:
- Responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed.
- Provide overall coordination for design projects.
- Perform and/or supervises the preparation of scope, pre-schematic, schematic, preliminary and construction documents including reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
- Work with a wide range of technical, professional, managerial and support personnel as well as outside consultants, contractors, vendors, and various government agencies.
- May function as a project leader reporting to an Engineer/Architect B or Engineer/Architect C, Managing Architect, Managing Engineer, or Director to plan and coordinate work with other Engineers and Architects.
- May direct Associate (non-licensed) Engineers/Architects and Architectural/Engineering Technicians, and/or Technical Inspectors working on several less complex design and construction projects, such as new schools, modernizations, additions, leased space, and Capital Improvement Projects (CIP).
Engineer – B
- Engineer B may supervise lower-level Architects and Engineers, Technical Inspectors, Quality Assurance Specialists, Associate Architects and Associate Engineers, and Architectural/Engineering Technicians.
- Work on several more complex design projects such as large primary schools, small intermediate schools, special types of buildings (e.g., special education schools), full modernizations, large additions, and specialized and/or numerous CIP projects.
- May chair or participate in department seminars and workshops.
- Provides mentoring for professional development of lower level employees.
- Trains new SCA employees and contingent staff
- Performs the duties of Architect - A when necessary.
- Performs related duties, as assigned.
Engineer C
- Engineer - C is responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed, and manages team members and/or contractors on projects to achieve the objectives of the Authority.
- Works as a project leader on multiple, complex construction projects and major design and exploration programs to plan, assign, direct, manage, and supervise the work of stakeholders such as Engineers, Architects, Quality Assurance Specialists, Technical Inspectors, Associate Engineers, Associate Architects, and Architectural/Engineering Technicians, resolving any problems that occur.
- Manages multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ensures compliance to codes, standards, and that the project is completed on schedule.
- Performs design review of work prepared by other engineers/architects.
- Assists in preparing new design standards and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
Baccalaureate Degree in related discipline from an accredited university/college plus:
Level B requires: A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer and three years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; two years must be as a project engineer; project team, or squad leader
Level C requires: A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer and six years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; three years must be as a project engineer; project, team, or squad leader; or a comparable level of responsibility.
Current New York State Professional Engineer license must be maintained for the duration of employment for all levels.
