Description

The PEER Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) is responsible for assisting individuals involved in the criminal legal system in fulfilling court-ordered and treatment requirements and fostering a life of sobriety, recovery and wellness. This position is intended to empower TEEM participants to achieve their personal goals and objectives in order to achieve stability and self-sufficiency. Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, transporting participants from jail, attend court hearings, conducting court-ordered drug testing, providing information to the courts, conducting wellness checks and providing support to individuals in recovery.  The PRSS participates in interdisciplinary staff meetings, programmatic development and participant problem solving in accordance with guidelines established the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) and TEEM personnel manual. 

•         Provides encouragement and support for participants in recovery.
•         Administer urinary analysis and/or saliva drug tests in compliance with court requirements.
•         Transport participants directly from the Oklahoma County Jail to assessments and intake services.
•         Provide wellness checks for participants who may be non-compliant with their treatment requirements.
•         Maintains and connects participants to in-house services including, but not limited to, the clothing and hygiene closets and food pantry.
•         Assists with the transportation of participants in compliance with the Oklahoma County Court regulations and TEEM guidelines.
•         Provides support to administrative and case management staff to ensure participant success.
•         Implements and/or coordinates TEEM-approved strategies that promote the sobriety and recovery of participants.
•         Participates in goal-setting activities with participants to determine the individual’s situation, goals, strengths and needs. 
•         Adheres to the confidentially and right to self-determination of participants.
•         Establishes an environment for participants to learn and grow that is based on respect, honor and human dignity. 
•         Works with community partners to identify and coordinate services necessary to support participant success.
•         Participates in weekly staff meetings to determine successful implementation of job-related duties. 
•         Assists with identifying collaborative opportunities among faith-based, non-profit, for profit, and other community-based organizations.
•         Represents TEEM to individuals, groups and organizations within the community such as civic organizations, faith leaders and donors.  
•         Works with staff members and participants in a positive, productive manner.
•         Adheres to ODMHSAS, Oklahoma Department of Corrections and TEEM criteria and guidelines in working with individuals impacted by the justice    system.
•         Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

•         Possesses a basic understanding of people in need and/or impacted by the criminal justice system and how to work with such individuals without enabling them.
•         Possesses a track record of positive interpersonal relationships.
•         Ability to relate to participants, staff and the public in a positive manner.
•         Ability to track, document, and maintain up-to-date and accurate records.
•         Ability to perform effectively in a changing environment and demonstrate versatility in dealing with a wide range of people and circumstances.
•         Maintains commitment to the TEEM philosophy, values, mission, and program.
•         Ability to adhere to TEEM’s policies and procedures.
•         Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent, Peer Recovery Support Specialist Certification
•         Education Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree
•         Work Experience: Two years of direct services with individuals impacted by the criminal legal system.
