Patient Safety Infection Control Specialist Consultation-Dental The location: Falls Church, VA Falls Church is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia with a population of approximately 15,000. The organization: The Military Health System (MHS)/Defense Heath Agency (DHA) is a global, comprehensive, integrated system that includes combat medical services, peacetime health care delivery, public health services, medical education and training, and medical research and development. The MHS currently includes 51 Inpatient Hospitals and Medical Centers, 424 Ambulatory Care and Occupational Health Clinics, and 248 Dental Clinics. The DHA supports the Combatant Commanders and Military Services to execute the Department of Defense (DoD) medical mission in peacetime and wartime. The DHA is responsible for the administrative functions of all Markets and Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) for budgeting, Information Technology (IT), administration and management, policies and procedures, and construction. In addition to these administrative functions the DHA is responsible for the coordination and delivery of healthcare throughout the MHS in support of DHA's Strategy Map DHA is active around the world, with military and civilian experts supporting military health operations at military hospitals and clinics, as well as dental and veterinary clinics. Essential Duties Manages daily activities of the Dental IPC Program to prevent and control healthcare associated infections related to dental care including risk assessment and response, regulatory and accreditation compliance activities, tracking trending, monitoring Dental IPC related issues/concerns/data, as well as consultation, coaching, mentoring and education to field. Requires Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or Dental Specialist with specific training and experience in IPC in dental healthcare settings. Shall provide specialized management and healthcare IT support to PS including but not limited to: Implementation of TapRooT® (Technical Expert) to include education/training for TapRooT® 7 steps of Investigations and tools such as SnapCharT®(s), Spring®, Summer®, Autumn®, Winter®, Root Cause Tree®, Corrective Action Helper®, SMARTER Matrix, Change Analysis Clinical expertise and a broad understanding of health care systems and processes paired with (CHAP) coach and mentor PS professionals on use of the TapRooT® methodology, tools and application. Utilize patient safety policies and activities. Collaborate with key staff to ensure the effective integration of patient safety functions. Establishes and implement patient safety systems and promotes the culture of safety. Monitors the collection and analysis of organizational outcome data related to patient safety and the delivery of patient care. Evaluates and prioritizes problem areas apprising leadership of problems and potential courses of action. Develops corrective action plans, and evaluates initiatives to determine effectiveness. Serves as an expert on patient safety and trains and consults with personnel within the Market, particularly in root cause analysis and proactive risk assessment. Liaison activity with DHA HQ. Coordinates tactical assistance to MTFs and all MTFs activities regarding Patient Safety and works collaboratively with MTF CQM. Ensures MTF PSMs have access to PS tools to perform tasks. Healthcare Informaticist with extensive Patient Safety expertise to serve as the primary POC for all HIT-related PS issues and Collaborates to develop appropriate risk-reduction strategies to improve safety and reliability. Implements and manages a standardized process for managing HIT system alerts related to patient safety. Coordinates planning, training, and implementation efforts regarding patient safety and EHR modernization efforts. Provides consultation, coaching, mentoring and education to field staff Manages daily activities of the Dental IPC Program to prevent and control healthcare associated infections related to dental care including risk assessment and response, regulatory and accreditation compliance activities, tracking trending, monitoring Dental IPC related issues/concerns/data, Consultation, coaching, mentoring and education to field. Requirements Requires Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or Dental Specialist with specific training and experience in IPC in dental healthcare settings. Certification in Infection Prevention and Control is Required (CIC) 5-10 years' experience working as IPC specialty in a large healthcare system Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff MHS/DHA experience preferred Four-Year Contract, location is Falls Church VA with a possibility of remote.
