The Outdoor Lab Site Director is the lead architect for delivering transformative camper experiences and is responsible for day-to-day camp operations. This includes development and management of staff, financial, marketing, communications, and strategic operations. The Site Director ensures the delivery of activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to campers’ age and abilities while achieving Outdoor Lab’s goals:

Essential Job Functions:
- Operational Management: Oversee daily camp operations including communications, business management functions (including record keeping, office systems), database management, and food service delivery.
Program Design & Delivery: Design, deliver, and evaluate a successful camp program; ensure lesson plans meet camp outcomes and coordinate all activities with staff. - Staff Leadership: Directly manage the Healthcare Director and Counselor staff, including training, support, supervision, motivation, feedback, and performance evaluations.
- Financial & Strategic Planning: Oversee financial management, budget and accounting operations. Develop and monitor the operating budget, including weekly payroll and other expense tracking; design marketing plans to grow attendance and analyze enrollment trends.
- Safety & Risk Management: Develop and implement crisis and risk management procedures; assist in the management and care of all camp physical facilities and equipment; oversee daily safety checks of facilities and equipment; ensure that program areas are kept free of hazards and debris. Ensure camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures.
- Scheduling & Evaluation: Create camper and staff schedules for programs and activities; collect and evaluate records to report on program success.
- Community Engagement: Oversee all written and verbal communications to camper families and stakeholders; maintain clear, positive, and proactive communications; seek and analyze input from youth, families, and staff to improve program quality
Other Job Duties:
- Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, providing support and guidance to staff
Participate in administrative staff meetings. Help deliver and supervise evening programs for staff, special events, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
Compensation & Hours:
- Pay range: $1400 - $1500 per week (depending on experience).
- Typical Hours: Weekdays 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM when camp is in session. (June 8 - August 7, 2026)
- Pre-Camp: Must be available for 20-30 hours of flexible remote work before camp begins for preparation.
- Mandatory Training: Attend at least 2 days of in-person training (week of June 8), complete online modules, and attend weekly Tuesday evening staff programming.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in similar administrative roles at summer camp(s)
- Experience in the development and delivery of STEAM projects, sports, and other programs and activities for elementary children
- Current certification in first aid and CPR.
Additional Qualifications: A valid driver’s license and automobile insurance are preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of youth and youth development. Training and experience in teaching programs to both adults and children, and in operating safe, reliable, welcoming camp conditions
- Knowledge of human resource management, maintenance, communications, marketing, budget and finance
- Desire and ability to work with children in an outdoor environment.
Physical Aspects of the Job:
- Physical endurance and ability to work outdoors with prolonged daily exposure to heat and sun.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental hazards.
- Strength and endurance to maintain constant supervision of campers and respond appropriately to emergencies or first aid situations. Ability to respond appropriately to first aid situations and to assist campers in an emergency.
- Ability to observe camper and staff behavior and apply appropriate management techniques.
- Must be available and able to work on-site during camp hours.
