Description
About Goodman Allen Donnelly:
Goodman Allen Donnelly is a well-established, full-service defense litigation firm renowned for its depth in professional liability and health-care litigation. Our Richmond office is home to a dynamic team handling high-stakes medical malpractice matters for hospitals, physicians, and health-care systems. We value teamwork, mentorship, innovation in litigation strategy, and a commitment to excellence for our clients.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and experienced associate (3-5 years of litigation experience) to join our Medical Malpractice team in Richmond. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in civil litigation (preferably with health-care or medical malpractice exposure), excel at legal research and writing, and be ready to handle a meaningful caseload. This role offers opportunity for growth, greater responsibility, and ongoing mentorship from our senior trial attorneys.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage a varied docket of medical malpractice claims and related professional-liability matters from early-stage investigation through resolution (and trial when appropriate).
Conduct medical-records review and coordinate with medical-expert consultants to evaluate liability, causation and damages.
Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery responses, expert disclosures and other litigation documents.
Take and defend depositions of fact witnesses and experts; prepare witnesses for deposition and trial testimony.
Collaborate with partners, senior associates, paralegals and staff to develop case strategy, trial preparation and settlement planning.
Appear in court hearings, mediations, status conferences, and assist with trial work as assigned.
Communicate effectively with clients, health-care providers, insurers and opposing counsel, and keep internal team updated on case status, deadlines and issues.
Keep abreast of evolving medical-malpractice law, health-care regulatory trends, and emerging liability risks in the health-care sector.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school; admitted (or eligible for admission) to the Virginia State Bar.
Approximately 3-5 years of civil litigation experience (defense side preferred); experience in medical malpractice or health-care liability strongly preferred. (Candidates with fewer years and strong high-stakes litigation skills will be considered.)
Strong legal-writing, oral-advocacy and analytical skills—ability to break down complex medical issues into clear legal theories.
Experience working with medical records, experts and health-care clients is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple matters, meet deadlines and work both independently and as part of a team.
Self-starter attitude, proactive in client service and eager to build deep health-care litigation experience.
High standards of professionalism, client focus, and ethical judgment.
