Job Description:
The Department of German and Russian Studies at Binghamton University invites applications for a full-time lecturer in German beginning in Fall 2026 for an appointment of up to three years, with the possibility of renewal. A Ph.D. in hand (in German Studies, German Applied Linguistics, or a related field) is required at the time of appointment. We are especially interested in applicants with a research profile or substantive experience in second language acquisition.
The teaching load for this position is 3/3, with typically two preparations per semester. We seek candidates with native or near-native proficiency in German, proven records of excellence in undergraduate teaching, and expertise in current approaches to second language learning and teaching. The successful applicant will be prepared to teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced German language courses, as well as courses in English in their area of expertise. We are especially interested in applicants who will be able to contribute to program-building, outreach, and curricular growth in the context of a vibrant, interdisciplinary German studies program.
The department welcomes applications from individuals who may have had nontraditional career paths, or who may have taken time off from their professional trajectory, or who have achieved excellence in careers outside of academia. We are especially interested in applicants who view teaching and research as areas to promote diversity and perspectives that are underrepresented in higher education. Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in German Studies, German Applied Linguistics, or a related field by August 17, 2026
- Speak and write fluently in German and English
- Experience teaching German at the college level
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive teaching experience at the college level (3+ years)
- Research profile or substantive experience in second language acquisition
