Description
Austin Peay State University invites applications for an Instructor of Geography position in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. This is a full-time, three-year, renewable position to begin August 2026. This position reports directly to the department chair.
The department offers a B.S. in Earth and Environmental Sciences with concentrations in geography and geology. The Department currently consists of seven tenured and tenure-track faculty, one full-time instructor, two staff members, and has considerable facilities and equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, a 30-seat dedicated computer lab with a suite of geospatial software, handheld GPS units, drones, large-format printers, and various laboratory spaces for research. Requirements
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities include teaching up to 15 credit hours of Physical Geography, GIS (intro and advanced), Remote Sensing, and possibly other courses in the candidate’s area of interest. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the department by recruiting and participating in other service activities. The candidate may also be asked to work with students on collaborative undergraduate research projects.
Required Qualifications
M.S. in Geography (similar degrees will be considered with appropriate coursework) with experience teaching GIS at the university level. The applicant must have relevant experience in both GIS and Remote Sensing. A Ph.D. is preferred. Experience incorporating active learning and engaging majors and non-majors in introductory courses is desirable. Commitment to undergraduate education and the ability to work closely with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
