Description

Under the general direction of the Parks & Recreation Director, is the Golf Professional (Golf Pro), the Golf Course, and operations of the Golf Program of the City. The Golf Pro manages the golf course and supervises the work of the golf staff. Plans for the needs of the golf course in terms of budget, rates, maintenance, capital items, and staffing levels. Administers the overall golf program. Responsible for the golf instruction program.

Experience Required

Qualifications

• Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Bachelor's Degree in golf management, business, recreation, or a related field preferred.
• Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in golf operations, course management, tournament administration, or a related field required.
• Class A PGA Professional certification required.
• Must have a valid Utah Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have extensive knowledge of golf and be skilled in teaching golf. Must have knowledge of golf course operations and equipment. Must be an excellent golfer. Must have supervisory ability, knowledge of public budgeting, and possess excellent public relations skills. Must have the ability to keep up with the latest trends and innovations in golf courses and golf play. Must have knowledge of retail sales, merchandising, and inventory control.

Physical Demands

Must have good computer skills. Must have good written/verbal communication skills. Must be able to present a professional image to the customers, etc. Must be able to walk, sit, and stand for long periods of time.

Essential Responsibilities

• Administers the operation of the municipal golf course, including start of play, collection of fees, and submittal of revenue to City Treasurer.
• Maintains certification by the Professional Golfers Association and keeps up to date on all aspects of golf, including all new innovations, etc.
• Selects, trains, and manages the golf staff to promote the most effective and efficient operation and maintenance of the Golf Course.
• Manages the budget for the Golf Course Division, evaluating and recommending the appropriate revenue and expenditure for staffing, and maintenance needs of the Golf Course.
• Represents the needs of the department to the elected officials, other City departments, the public, the media, and other government agencies. Acts as an ambassador for the golf course and city.
• Promotes tournaments and events to maximize participation and revenue.
• Works with the Men's and Ladies' Golf Associations with input, course directions, and needs.
• Responsible for the presentation and upkeep of the Pro Shop. Oversee all pro shop operations including retail, sales, marketing, merchandising, pricing, and inventory control. Selects, purchases, and manages golf merchandise and equipment in alignment with budget goals.
• All other duties as assigned.
