Salary: Starting Annual Salary (TAM 22): $194,427.22

Duties: Under direction of the General Counsel, manages a division of the Law Department, represents the District on the most complex matters and assists the General Counsel in rendering legal advice to District officers and staff.
Requirements
Absolute Requirement: Admission to the Illinois Bar and the General Bar for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree and ten years of experience in the general practice of law, five years of which must have been in legal fields related to District activities.

1. General practice of law and litigation.
2. Work related to District activities such as government contracts, employment and civil service law, environmental law, construction law, and commercial/industrial real estate law.
3. Supervision of professional staff or outside counsel in the performance of complex legal work.

Salary/Pay Plans
The salary listed above is Step 1 in a structured pay plan. At 6 months of employment with the District, the salary will increase to Step 2: $102,373.96. At 18 months, the salary will increase to Step 3: $108,660.50. There are 9 total steps for TAM 15 of the pay plan (view full pay plan). These increases are based on service time in the job classification and require a 'Meets Standard' performance rating.
Appointments
Appointment is subject to successfully passing a physical examination, a drug test and a criminal history background investigation.
