In December 2024, Chehalem Swim Team (CST) partnered with Tigard-Tualatin and Canby Swim Clubs to form Apex Aquatics — a regional collaboration now serving 300+ swimmers across the Portland metro area. We’re building something bigger than a single club — a unified swim culture that supports athletes from their first lap to the national stage. We’re looking for a driven, organized, and inspiring coach to guide our 11–14 year-old athletes — helping them build technical skills, race confidence, and competitive success. This role plays a central part in shaping the foundation and identity of Apex’s age-group program.

Primary Responsibilities
- Lead daily practices for mainly 11-14 y/o swimmers with a focus on technique, race skills, and progression
- Create seasonal and daily training plans
- Plan and lead dryland workouts 2x/week
- Attend meets, including travel and championship events
- Mentor and manage assistant coach(es)
- Collaborate with Apex staff and coaches for continuity
- Assist with 10&U swimmers as needed
- Maintain a positive, growth-minded team culture
- Communicate with head coach, swimmers, and families
Schedule & Hours
Approx 25-30 hours/week
Weekday practices:
Sept–Feb: 3:00–5:00 PM
Mar–Aug: 4:00–6:00 PM
Saturday mornings: 9:00-11:00 AM
Dryland 2x/week following practices
Meets on weekends (2–3/month)
About Chehalem Swim Team (CST)
A longstanding USA Swimming–sanctioned nonprofit (501(c)(3)) with about 115 active swimmers, based at Chehalem Aquatic Center in Newberg, Oregon. Practices are held in a dedicated 8-lane competition pool and an adjoining 5-lane, 20-yard stretch pool. The pool is configured for SCY or SCM depending on the season. Requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of age group club coaching
- USA Swimming Coach certifications (or willingness to obtain)
- Lifeguarding certification preferred
- Strong technical and organizational skills
- Team-first, growth-minded coaching style
