Description
The Director of Recruitment is responsible for providing strategic leadership and vision for the University's on-campus undergraduate student recruitment efforts. This position focuses on developing and executing a comprehensive recruitment strategy designed to attract, engage, and enroll a diverse, qualified student population.
Typical Duties:
- Report to the Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Success and provide leadership for undergraduate recruitment initiatives, including marketing and branding, strategic outreach, freshman and transfer recruitment, visit days and campus tours, yield strategies, new student orientation, and scholarships.
- Develop, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive recruitment plan that includes territory management, high school and community college partnerships, recruitment travel, and on- and off-campus engagement opportunities.
- Lead and coordinate recruitment events and experiences, including campus visit programs, special events, and group tours, ensuring high-impact, student-centered experiences.
- Oversee the development and execution of multi-channel communication strategies (print, digital, and social media) in collaboration with marketing staff and external partners to support recruitment goals.
- Utilize the Slate CRM to manage prospective student communications, track engagement, and optimize recruitment funnel performance.
- Use data analytics and enrollment trends to inform recruitment strategies, monitor progress toward enrollment goals, and provide regular reports to senior leadership.
- Collaborate closely with Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Affairs, Athletics, and other campus partners to align recruitment efforts with institutional priorities and student success initiatives.
- Oversee the scholarship awarding process in partnership with the Financial Aid Office to enhance recruitment and yield of targeted student populations.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate recruitment staff and student ambassadors, fostering a high-performance, service-oriented team culture.
- Manage the recruitment budget, including travel, events, scholarship, and marketing expenditures, ensuring effective allocation of resources.
- Serve as a key contributor to Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) planning, supporting the development and execution of enrollment strategies aligned with institutional goals.
- Represent the University at recruitment events, professional conferences, and community engagements to expand institutional visibility and partnerships.
- Lead the planning and implementation of freshman and transfer student orientation.
- Oversee the selection and training of the University's ambassadors.
The Director of Recruitment must build and sustain strong relationships with a wide range of internal and external constituents, including prospective students and families, K-12 and community college partners, alumni, faculty, and staff. Success in this role depends heavily on the ability to influence, build trust, and communicate effectively across diverse audiences.
This individual must demonstrate a high level of interpersonal effectiveness, professionalism, and responsiveness while consistently promoting a positive image of the University and advancing its enrollment goals.
Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree from an accredited institution.
- Five years of progressive outreach, admissions, and recruitment experience in a higher education setting.
- Collaborative management style, excellent interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse constituencies.
- The candidate must demonstrate understanding of strategic admissions and recruitment, and a track record of growing enrollments.
- Contemporary knowledge of recruitment technology and its application to admissions/enrollment best practices.
- The capacity to analyze and interpret data and demographic trends to shape enrollment strategies and recruitment market development.
- Excellent supervisory, team building, and leadership and management skills.
Preferred:
- Doctoral degree.
- Experience at a regional institution.
