Description
Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club is seeking a driven and career-focused Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our agronomy team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated turf professional to gain leadership experience while working at a private member-owned club maintaining an 18-hole championship golf course entirely in Seashore Paspalum.This position is designed for a motivated turf professional who is eager to grow within the industry while gaining meaningful experience in agronomic management, leadership, and golf course administration.
Working directly with the Director of Agronomy, the Assistant Superintendent will play an active role in maintaining exceptional playing conditions while gaining exposure to budget development, agronomic program design, and operational decision-making that prepares them for future leadership opportunities.
This role is intended to provide the selected candidate with direct involvement in planning and executing agronomic programs rather than simply implementing them, offering valuable experience for individuals pursuing future Superintendent or Director of Agronomy roles.
The club is currently planning a full golf course renovation with renowned golf course architect Rees Jones, with a project timeline to be determined. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in planning, preparation, and execution of this project alongside the agronomy team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the daily planning and execution of golf course maintenance operations
- Supervise and lead maintenance staff while ensuring high standards of work quality
- Provide continual training and development for both experienced staff and newer employees
- Monitor turf health and assist in agronomic decision-making
- Calibrate application equipment and assist with fertilizer and pesticide applications
- Learn and participate in building fertility, fungicide, herbicide, and insecticide programs
- Assist with irrigation system monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance
- Participate in budgeting, purchasing, inventory management, and administrative duties
- Participate in staff and management meetings when workload allows
- Assist with planning and executing cultural practices and course improvement projects
- Participate in detailed data tracking and agronomic record keeping
- Assist with drone mapping and NDVI turf health monitoring technology
- Assist with Early Order Program (EOP) strategy and planning for fertilizers, pesticides, and other agronomic inputs
- Help maintain championship-level playing conditions across all course surfaces
- Maintenance Staff: 24 total team members
- Leadership Team: Director of Agronomy, 2 Assistant Superintendents, Irrigation Technician, and 2 Equipment Technicians
- Equipment Fleet: Toro
- Irrigation System: Toro irrigation system utilizing Lynx central control software
The agronomy program emphasizes precision turf management, incorporating modern data tracking, drone NDVI monitoring, and detailed agronomic record analysis to guide management decisions.

- Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or related field preferred
- 3-5 years of golf course maintenance experience preferred
- Seashore Paspalum experience is a plus but not required
- Ability to lead and communicate effectively with a team
- Strong attention to detail and desire to advance in the profession
- Florida pesticide applicator license required within 90 days of employment
