Description
Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, seeks a dedicated Manager to join its Development Department. This position will contribute to a team that cultivates over $2.5M-$3M+ annually to support TCG's programs and services, aligning with TCG’s mission to lead for a just and thriving theatre ecology.
Reporting to the Director of Advancement and Philanthropic Engagement, the Manager will experience all aspects of fundraising – from developing strategy to securing resources for an ambitious strategic plan -- with a particular focus on foundation and government support. Most work is performed remotely; however, occasional travel to other locations may be required throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities
The Advancement and Philanthropic Engagement Manager is responsible for:
- Managing grants and institutional funding (writing, reporting, prospecting, and stewarding foundations and government funders).
- Managing corporate sponsorships (research, cultivation, proposals, contracts, and benefit fulfillment).
- Ensuring strong department operations (data tracking, impact reporting, donor stewardship, and assigning duties as needed).
This role ensures TCG meets its contributed revenue goals by driving institutional giving, building sponsor partnerships, and maintaining development operations
Grants & Foundations
- Manage a portfolio of foundation and government grants; partner with the Director to retain and grow institutional funding.
- Write and prepare proposals, reports, LOIs, and briefings for foundation and government support, multi-year programs, and special campaigns.
- Research and track new institutional prospects; maintain an active grant calendar.
- Co-manage TCG's contract grant writers; ensure narratives and financials align across all submissions.
- Collaborate with program staff to gather data, stories, and budgets that strengthen proposals and reports.
Corporate Sponsorships & Partnerships
- Conduct brand alignment research to develop solicitation and activation plans for sponsors and partners, ensuring seamless integration and alignment.
- Generate tailored cultivation lists for sponsorship opportunities.
- Prepare sponsor proposals, support with negotiating agreements, and manage the administration and fulfillment of sponsor benefits.
- Maintain systems for sponsor tracking, benefit fulfillment, communications, acknowledgments, and records.
Departmental Operations & Team Management
- Manage the cross-organizational process to collect impact data for funder reports and public profiles (SMU/DataArts, GuideStar, Charity Navigator).
- Manage the monthly impact report developed by the Development Department.
- Ensure accurate data entry, acknowledgments, and tracking of all institutional contributions in TCG’s CRM, iMIS.
- Support department-wide initiatives, including stewardship plans, campaigns, and board engagement.
- Manage day-to-day departmental workflows and assign duties to the Advancement and Philanthropic Engagement Coordinator as needed to maintain smooth operations; this role does not include formal supervision.
- Support the planning, promotion, and execution of special events, donor gatherings, and gala initiatives, managing logistics and collaborating across departments to ensure seamless coordination, meaningful engagement, and alignment with TCG’s advancement and philanthropic goals.
- Assist with scheduling, meeting documentation, and other duties as assigned by the Director.
- Represent TCG externally at funder meetings and events, as needed.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $65,000–$70,000, commensurate with experience. TCG offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage; an Employee Assistance Program; Short- and Long-Term Disability; two weeks of vacation; and additional paid time off.

Requirements
Ideal Candidates Will Have
This position is multi-faceted, fast-paced, and integral to TCG's fundraising and advancement efforts. Applicants should exhibit experience and enthusiasm for writing effective proposals, program evaluation, and budgeting. Familiarity with issues affecting the non-profit theatre community—for both institutions and individual practitioners—is highly desired. Curiosity and the ability to summarize ideas are necessary. The ability to interact with staff at all levels while remaining proactive, resourceful, and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality, is essential to the success and growth within this role. TCG is seeking someone who brings a "can-do" enthusiastic disposition to the job and inspires others to do their best work.
Additional qualities and experience include
5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, marketing, producing, or event management.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in writing grants is required; experience preparing sponsorship proposals is a plus.
Passion for supporting theatre and the performing arts, whether through professional or personal engagement.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Outlook, Word, and SharePoint.
Proficiency in Google Suite, including Drive, Docs, and Calendar.
Proficiency in utilizing donor databases or Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, as well as project management tools such as Asana and/or AirTable.
Demonstrate experience and commitment to activating anti-racism, equity, and inclusive values, with the ability to apply these values in day-to-day work.
Dedication and a deep commitment to fostering diverse and inclusive environments, working effectively across various identities, including gender expression, race, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class, and immigrant status.
Comfort working both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment.
