Job Summary
The Senior Director of Nursing Operations is a professional who assists the Chief Nursing Officer with developing, maintain and evaluating organizational planning systems compatible with the ANA Code of Ethics, and Nursing Standards to facilitate the delivery of patient care services. The Senior Director manages and directs multiple cost centers / departments as well as oversees the staff and operations of their units / department. Their duties include, but are not limited to:
- Plans, directs, and coordinates all operational activities for areas of responsibility.
- Develops policies and procedures as well as the quality improvement programs for areas of responsibility.
- Develops the capital and operating budgets.
- Ensures areas of responsibility are appropriately staffed by recruiting, hiring, and retaining competent staff.
- Responsible for development and enforcement of policies and procedures that ensure quality patient care and hospital operations.
- Ensures operations run within budgetary guidelines and promotes positive employee engagement and appropriate communication with staff.
- Responsible for quality and performance improvement activities in department and multidisciplinary practices.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and guidelines as set by federal, state, local and other agencies (i.e., JC, CMS, TDH).
- Facilitates positive and productive relationships with physicians, ancillary staff, and peers that involves bilateral communication.
- Responsible for positive internal and external customer satisfaction results and to ensure that all staff meet the service standards.
- As a member of The Hospitals of Providence leadership team makes a significant contribution to the public's perception of the hospital.
Performs additional duties as assigned
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
- Bachelors or Master's must be in Healthcare / Leadership related field
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
Required Licenses / Certifications
- Current Texas State or compact RN license
- Certification in specialty recommended
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Three (3) to Five (5) years of management experience in healthcare
- Five (5) or more years' experience in acute care area or setting
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with all hospital management, employees, patients, visitors, and medical staff (verbal and written)
- Proven skills in leadership, planning and quality
- The director of nursing operations shall possess administrative, interpersonal, and management skills, excellent clinical judgment and quality assessment skills and a working knowledge of trends in health care management, medical staff issues and economics.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products
